Press release

Relating to the open letter of the S.P.P. colonel, Mircea Găinușă, the Press Department has the authority to communicate:

Mircea Găinușă has been an active officer of the Protection and Guard Service since 1993, when he was transferred from the Ministry of National Defence.
As in January 2007, the officer will have the retirement age, in December 18, 2006, he requested from the leadership of the service to be maintained in activity after this age.
As a consequence of the analysis of his request, it was rejected. We stipulate the fact that, maintaining an officer in activity after his retirement age has an exceptional character and this officer’s activity wasn’t enough support for a favorable decision.
Unsatisfied with the decision of the leadership of S.P.P., the officer made another report in which he requested a modification of the decision; he also announced that he would turn to the President of Romania about the so-called irregularities, with the hope that his capacity of an officer would convey greater importance to his statements.
He will be a retired officer starting with the 1st of February 2007, according to articles 85 and 92 in the Law 80/ 1995, on the military status (as a consequence of his age, 55, the maximum age limit for the rank)
We think that Mr. Găinușă’s manifestations were an expression of his discontent as he will not be an active military any more and he goes through a psychological breakdown but we would like him to get over it real soon.
