Attributions in the field of national security

The Protection and Guard Service is a state body with functions in the field of national security, specialized in providing protection for the Romanian dignitaries, the foreign dignitaries during their stay in Romania and their families within its legal competence. It also provides guard for the headquarters and residences of the above mentioned dignitaries in accordance with the decisions of the Supreme Council of National Defence.

On the 26 of December 1989 a group of 4 officers was made up, from the Minister of Defence having the mission to ensure the protection of the members in the leadership of the Council for the National Salvation. The special unit for protocol and protection was settled with the decree no. 204 from 7 may 1990.

The formation, maintenance and development of the necessary qualities of the professionals in our system are unpheld through the proper structure, in cooperation with other institutions in the country and different types of cooperation with similar services abroad.

The protection and guard Service has got a flexible structure that could adapt itself to the missions’ requests and development of the situation.
